Gastronomic and Agri-food Days Tajo Internacional
Gastronomic and Agri-food Days Tajo Internacional
As we reach the end of October and are already in the midst of autumn, every year the Gastronomic and Agro-Food Days of Tajo Internacional are held in Valencia de Alcántara, an event of a gastronomic and festive nature aimed at showcasing the best of the “rayana” cuisine of the International Tajo Biosphere Reserve.
This year, marking the 15th edition, it will be held on Saturday, October 26th. The visitor will have the opportunity to discover and taste the best of the gastronomic wealth of this border territory, where Spanish and Portuguese neighbors come together to present themselves as a unique territory through the environmental figure of the International Tajo Biosphere Reserve.
We propose a plan to make the most of the day of the event. To start the day, after tasting the delicious churros from “Churrería Cipri” with a pot coffee, or perhaps one of the typical sweets from “Dulcería Machado”…
Our advice is that before the event begins, you enjoy a leisurely stroll through the rich historical heritage of Valencia de Alcántara, which, by the way, will be good to work up an appetite for what is to come later. You can visit both the Tourist Office and the Marqués de la Conquista Interpretation Center where they will provide you with all the information you need.
Once at the event, which will take place in the vicinity of Plaza Gregorio Bravo, the days will offer a program for all audiences. The main activity, which will take place in an installed tent, will feature a showcase of a large number of agri-food companies, both Spanish and Portuguese, who will offer you the best of their products, and where you will have the opportunity to taste and/or purchase them. The variety of products ranges from meat products, cheeses, garden produce, fruits, sweets, breads, wines, beers, liquors, coffees, etc. Likewise, and if the weather permits, live cooking activities will take place in the same square where the best of “border cuisine” will be showcased and can be tasted.
Something good about the event is that they don’t forget about the little ones, and for that, they always offer free activities for all of them. You will be able to enjoy small culinary workshops, inflatable castles, and even musical entertainment. The grand finale of the event, as it could not be otherwise, is provided by folklore, another of the region’s potentialities. Every year, at the end of the event, a Transboundary Folklore Festival is held, organized by the local group “Juellega Extremeña,” which gives us the opportunity to enjoy the border folklore with their participation and that of several groups from different parts of Portuguese geography.
We are providing you with information about the poster and schedule for this year’s edition.
