Gastronomic and Agri-food Days Tajo Internacional

As we reach the end of October and are already in the midst of autumn, every year the Gastronomic and Agro-Food Days of Tajo Internacional are held in Valencia de Alcántara, an event of a gastronomic and festive nature aimed at showcasing the best of the “rayana” cuisine of the International Tajo Biosphere Reserve.

This year, marking the 16th edition, it will be held on Saturday, October 25th. The visitor will have the opportunity to discover and taste the best of the gastronomic wealth of this border territory, where Spanish and Portuguese neighbors come together to present themselves as a unique territory through the environmental figure of the International Tajo Biosphere Reserve.

We suggest a plan to make the most of the day. To start the day, after tasting the delicious churros from the Churrería “Cipri” with a cup of coffee, or some of the typical sweets from the Dulcería “Machao”… Our recommendation is that before the event begins, you enjoy a relaxing walk through the rich historical heritage of Valencia de Alcántara through the free guided tour that will begin at the “Marqués de la Conquista” Interpretation Center and end at the Tourist Office. This activity will also be good to whet your appetite for what’s to come later.

Once the event begins, which will take place near Plaza Gregorio Bravo, the day will offer a program for all audiences. During the main event, which will take place in a tent set up in the same area, you’ll find a selection of a wide variety of Spanish and Portuguese agri-food companies offering the best of their products, and you’ll have the opportunity to taste and/or purchase them. Among the variety of food, you’ll find meat products, cheeses, vegetables, fruits, sweets, breads, wines, beers, spirits, coffees, and more. Weather permitting, live cooking activities will also take place in the same square, showcasing the best of “borderline gastronomy” and offering opportunities for tasting.

Another great thing about the event is that the little ones aren’t forgotten, and to that end, free activities are always offered for all. They’ll be able to enjoy culinary workshops, bouncy castles, and even musical entertainment. Every year, a Cross-Border Folklore Festival is held in conjunction with the event, organized by the local group “Juellega Extremeña,” giving us the opportunity to enjoy the best border folklore, always featuring them and several groups from around Portugal.

As the icing on the cake, this edition will close with a folk music concert by the group “Aulaga Folk.” And at the end of the concert, you might be lucky enough to win a prize draw for a basket of products donated by the participating agri-food companies.
